RUTHERGLEN’S Demi Shale has become one of the North East’s leading secondary school students with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranking of 98.25 in the Victorian Certificate of Education results released on Monday.

Demi topped Wangaratta’s Galen Catholic College year 12 class and in doing so replicated her older sister’s dux achievement at the college in 2009.

Beechworth Secondary College dux Tilly Gleeson achieved an ATAR score of 85.7.

Rutherglen High School dux Adrian Oats secured an ATAR score of 87.1.

Demi’s stunning score was achieved in spite of a three-week break from studies when she accompanied her mother, Gaye Shale, to the Commonwealth Games in the Scottish city of Glasgow where Mrs Shale competed in the women’s double trap shooting.

Demi also squeezed in a trip to Portugal where her brother, Adam, was competing in the world shooting championships.
