• Hockey under nines impress

    Version 2

BEECHWORTH Hockey’s U9 squad put on an impressive display of skills and teamwork for their last match of the season.

These kids have worked hard on their skills all winter and were well-rewarded with a fun and friendly game on Saturday followed by a medal presentation and sausage sizzle put on by Hockey Albury-Wodonga.

Great play by Storm Crothers, who slotted in a much talked about goal and great defence work by Billy Taylor who was only days out of hospital recovering from tonsillitis.

Claudia Neil and Brianna Walker played great games and the ever-reliable wingers Jade Lawrence and Leila Gephart were everywhere.  Farewell to Charlotte Leslie who is moving to Tassie, hope you find a good hockey team there.

Thanks to coaches Ian McVea, Tracey Warner and Rachael Voogt and to all the parents who have helped on field or supported the team from the sidelines this season.

    Under 12 Girls

    Beechworth 2 d Scots 0.

The U12s have proven they can do it, so they are aiming to repeat the win next week in the finals.

The first half was fantastic.  Goals scored by Ellie Jarratt and Joanne Heckenberg.

Strong game from Ellie Jarratt, Eva Gephart and Lia Ladbrook.

We need to play hard all game and remember to keep position and talk.  It was such a good game to watch, everyone tried very hard and the girls have really improved.

Finishing 3rd on the ladder the girls will be playing in the semi-finals next week.

    Under 12 Boys

The boys played top of the ladder Wombats and unfortunately going down to them 13 to 1. As this was their last game of the season the focus of the game was to have fun and they did.

Well done boys for having a great season.

    Under 14 Girls

Beechworth U14 girls defeated by Falcons 6-0. A great last game for our girls who fought hard but just couldn’t get past Falcons defence, well done girls.

    Under 14 Boys

Beechworth beat Norths seven goals to one and move into the finals next week. Tommi Silvester scored his first goal for the season which meant every player in the team has now scored at least one goal. The team combined well with good passing shots and great plays to score goals from short-corners.

Finishing 3rd on the ladder the boys will be playing in the semi-finals next week.

    Under 16 Girls

The girls fought hard Friday night, playing a terrific team game. There were plenty of opportunities but Wodonga was strong in defence.
