TOUGH STUFF: Beechworth Hockey Club’s division three women’s player Marije Van Epenhuijsen skirts Scots Albury defender in the winning preliminary final last weekend, with fellow Beechworth player Libby M'Crystal (at back).

BEECHWORTH Hockey Club’s division three women and division three men will both compete in Saturday’s Albury Wodonga Hockey League competition season grand final in Albury.

The men’s team qualified for the grand final by finishing the season at the top of the ladder.

The women’s team in last weekend’s preliminary final fought a tough game against Scots to win 1-0.

Play was going backward and forward with some great defence from the backs and goalkeeper.

After a half time chat and some reinforcements on what was needed Beechworth went out in the second half and attacked hard in the first 15 minutes and weathered the storm.

With 10 minutes until the end of the game Maddy Boyd found herself in the circle after a great pass, scoring the winning goal.

The whole team played well but special mention must be made of Maggie Kaye-Simmons, Marije Van Epenhuijsen and Olivia Clark.

The division three women will play CR United at 4.45pm at Albury Hockey Ground 1 in Alexandra Gardens.

The men take on Norths on the same ground at 3pm.
