BLACK Bull at Silverwoods played host to the North East District Golf Association pennant finals on Sunday, with Beechworth club’s section one handicap team in action against Wangaratta.
After a wayward start which saw him four down after five holes, Ben Croome made the great escape to win two up, but this was cancelled out by Peter ‘Smokey’ Dawson’s three and two loss.
Jarryd Pritchard had a relatively early finish in his five and three triumph, leaving the result hanging in the balance.
Enter Brenton Pool.
All square going down the par four last, he hit a perfect 9 iron to a couple of feet, leaving a simple birdie putt for victory for himself and his team.
Little did he know that Dylan Pool had just got up 2&1 in the final pairing, making the result a 4/1 win, the club’s first handicap pennant title since 2011.
Dylan had more to cheer about when he was crowned the section one player of the year on a five way count back.
The team would like to thank Dean, Zane and Jacob Howard for their support and transportation on Sunday, as well as the unselfish Andy Croome who surrendered his spot in the team during the week despite tasting victory a week earlier.
